Covid & ISO Health Informatics Experience & Telehealth Services
The future of telehealth in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic will be determined by policies and the resources available. A Flinders University-led study polled health professionals to learn about their experiences with telehealth during COVID-19. Telehealth services, which permit doctors or health professionals to communicate via telephone or via the internet with patients, were encouraged by the government of Australia during the initial stages. This was done to decrease the possibility of transmission of communicable illnesses. This is especially useful for remote and rural areas with no having access to medical services.

Flinders University researchers Professor Paul Ward and Professor Hailay abrha Geosesew Professor Anthony Maeder and Professor Hailay abrha Gesesew conducted a survey of 91 health professionals about their experiences with telehealth during pandemic. According to experts, positives include legalization of telehealth as a method of delivery, increased confidence in the provision of it and better human and financial capabilities.

"While some physicians believed that the switch to telehealth had been prompted by the pandemic," stated Dr Alan Taylor, a principal author at Flinders University and member of the Australian Telehealth Society Committee.

Dr. Taylor stated it was hard to know how telehealth will be sustained following the pandemic. Future funding of telehealth services may also be affected by this complicated mixture of policy and clinical practice. Dr. Alan Taylor led a project that created an international standard for the field of telehealth services. Dr Taylor stated that international standards are an important part of world trade in goods, services, and with the increasing use of telehealth services, it is crucial to maintain the quality of telehealth services subject to ISO/TR 11633-2:2021 Health informatics-Information security management for remote maintenance of medical devices and medical information systems. These guidelines will prove to extremely useful for health professionals, such as primary care physicians who are looking to implement methods for managing risk to establish quality objectives and develop guidelines to ensure the proper operation of telehealth services.
